Time for more Czech avant-garde book design.
Here are two editions of the same book, both with stunning covers by Václav Mašek.
150,000,000, originally published in Russian in 1919, was an epic agitprop poem by Vladimir Mayakovsky, an active supporter of the Bolshevik government and one of the leading exponents of Russian Futurism.
The first image shows the first Czech edition, published by Petr, Prague in 1925. The second, published some twenty years later, is Melantrich’s special re-edition featuring nine original lithographs by Mašek and translation by Bohumil Mathesius.
